Depression
Depression can develop because of something that happened to you
…it can also develop because of something that didn’t happen.

Lifting depression can feel like the clearing of a fog. It is the beginning of looking forward to things and the energy to make small changes.

Possible Symptoms:
Trouble getting out of bed
Physically tired
Crying easily with no clear cause
No longer finding pleasure in things that used to give you pleasure
Feeling totally alone or unlovable
Believing that nothing will change or improve
Self loathing
Feeling that life is too much

Possible Causes:
Relationship breakdown
Workplace conflict
Rapid change
Unresolved grief
Transition into retirement
Loss of meaning or purpose
Trauma and abuse
Addiction
Treatment:
Treatment will draw on evidence-based practice to examine thinking habits that may be keeping you locked in painful emotions. Therapy will also examine changes in behaviour that may help to set your life on a different course.

When clients have been experiencing depression for a long time they often feel like no one can help or understand. Its true, depression may be difficult to lift, but there are several psychological models which have been shown to help.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptence and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness all have tools which have been effective for many people.

These approaches begin by creating distance between how you see yourself and the problems causing pain in your life. They tackle judgement, blame, anger, self loathing and regret.

The aim is to help you understand why you have come to feel the way you do and then gain the cognitive skills to find a way out.
